Mixel Etxekopar et François Rossé " Transhumances "
Wednesday November 15, 2006 l 19h30 Salle des fêtes de Voiron
Mixel Etxekopar (flutes, tambourine with cords, whistles, objects, voice…)
François Rossé (piano)
“Transhumances” is a magical moment of music, timeless and universal, the fruit of the delicious meeting between two musical nomads whose origins appear to be diametrically opposed.
The first is a fervent defender of the identity of his homeland. Basque Mixel Etxekopar passionately performs pastorales and masquerades from a region steeped in thousand-year-old musical traditions. With his voice, his xistu (traditional flute), bells and miscellaneous objects, he imaginatively uses the traditional repertoire of his home region as a single key to open up to other cultures.
The second, François Rossé, is a contemporary pianist and composer, a former student of Olivier Messiaen. Yet, this does not prevent him from improvising and lending his so-called “learned” culture to an extraordinary musical adventure.
Through an intriguing, crafty quest for sound based on attentively listening to each others’ musical worlds, Mixel Etxekopar and François Rossé take us far beyond their respective regions to a poetic, friendly musical landscape where flutes, bells, whistles, notes and the resonance of the piano blend with jubilation.
