There are few cultures whose traditions are as old and as faithfully passed on as that of the Jewish. Few cultures have managed to survive through such adversity and drama. Thanks to this, Jewish music is resplendent with popular melodies and obsessive, haunting liturgical chants.
This “cycle of Jewish chants”, adapted by Sonia Wieder-Atherton and Denis Lossev, attempts to explore this rich musical heritage, to introduce us to these extraordinary songs by putting them into perspective with the works great contemporary composers have written for cello.
