Sunday November 19, 2006 l 16h30 & 18h Musée Dauphinois - Grenoble Musiques au cœur des Musées
The musicians : François Marillier, Philippe Martins, Abdesslem Gherbi, Estelle Amy de la Bretèque, Valérie Bossu-Ragis, Laurence Fayet, Annie Donnadieu, Caroline Bugat, Benjamin Derothe, Freddy Ferchaud
The gamelan is at the forefront of the percussion ensembles that have influenced western musicians and music lovers, namely Steve Reich and the generation of “repetitive” musicians. The complex rhythmic structures combined with beauty and quality of the sound of the gongs and metallophones that make up this traditional orchestra have won over a growing number of musicians and listeners, both in the United States and throughout Europe, in recent years.
In France, a professional gamelan ensemble has been formed, bringing together teachers from Cité de la Musique and some of their students. Led by Dominique Billaud and Gilles Delebarre, these musicians are also regularly in contact with Indonesian artists and go to study the repertoire in Java. The ensemble will perform a selection of some of the most famous works in the Javanese repertoire called Klenengan.
