DJ Olive vs JP Dessy
electronics / violoncello

Thursday November 23, 2006 l 12h30
EVE – Campus Universitaire - St Martin d'Hères

Two fascinating musicians, with very different musical backgrounds and styles, take us on a one-of-a-kind musical adventure, drawing the contours of a digital and acoustic landscape. Is this merely electronic vs. contemporary? Mixing vs. acoustic? No, it is a new definition of process of creating music, breaking down genre barriers, moving beyond the pious images of certain trans-systemic practices!

Cofounder with his colleagues fiddlers of sounds Loop and Once11 of the trio “We”, DJ Olive is one of the principal representatives, with DJ Spooky, of the scene “illbient” New Yorkean, subtle mixture of ambient viral, of urban sound landscapes and rates/rhythms drum' N bass and dub.

Born in Huy in 1963, Jean-Paul Dessy achieved his musical studies with the Academies of Liege and Brussels. He simultaneously studied at the universities of Liege and Leuwen-the-New where he obtained a licence in Romance Philology. He is since 1996 artistic director of New the Musics Unit recently installed within the Transborder Arts centre the Mons Horse-gear.
