Bang on a can was founded in New York in 1987 by Julia Wolfe, Mickaël Gordon and David Lang. Since then, over 150 concerts have been created. That twelve-hour marathon festival, the Brooklyn Bang on a Can Festival, is also their brainchild, and resulted in their founding the Bang on a Can All stars Ensemble, aiming at capturing the festival’s ambience and recreating it on tour. Many new works by composers of all nationalities have been dedicated to the ensemble which interprets music born in New York’s cosmopolitan melting pot, a mixture of the preciseness of chamber music, inspired jazz and the energy of off-beat rock from far horizons...
