Languages shape perceptions, and their rhythms, intonations and poetic potentiality create different musical worlds. How then can musicians and singers from Iran, Southern India and Mali create a new kind of music together? Music that is not merely the juxtaposition of the three oral cultures. Percussionist Keyvan Cheminari takes up the challenge, using percussion instruments as an ‘Open Sesame’ for musical languages.
